the movie tells the story of a young woman breaking with her parents, something that could happen to any teenager or young adult. Now standing between two men, she also has to deal with her blackmailing mother by phone and a brutal cop in person. Forced into a poor and bohemian existence, the protagonist still has her eye on one goal: preparing another escape - her real escape into a free and self-determined life.

The tension this young woman is subjected to turns this movie into a sheer pleasure, as it is unique in depicting a woman’s destiny in many fragmented details. The effort and craft director Mark Fischer put into creating the protagonist's persona, so clearly showing her worries, fears and egoism simultaneously are amazing and suck you straight into the movie from the beginning on. It's not only because of this that FAL could possibly be the best picture in decades; the way four young filmmakers simply took a camera and started shooting makes it one of the most unconventional films I have seen in years. What makes the movie so special is the versatility with which actor/director Mark Fischer wrote a fantastically unpredictable script.

Does this mean FAL is a strange movie? Absolutely, in the way that it transcends Hollywood's mainstream boredom, making it equally strange, new and amazing. My expectation is we will hear a lot about the film by means of polarized, possibly controversial, opinions as it bears enough potential for discussion. Either way, one has to admit it is a true pleasure to watch the movie and that's the main reason why I like it.
